The project

University history whose places of origin you can step into.

The Marburger Wissensräume (“Marburg knowledge spaces”) are an interdisciplinary research project of the Institute of Art History at Philipps-Universität. Led by Prof. Dr. Peter Bell and with the participation of students, it brings 500 years of university, scientific and architectural history to life digitally.

The focus is on the university’s rooms and buildings. They are linked with information about how they were used and with the stories of the people who studied, taught or worked there. This includes places that have since disappeared, such as the former Dominican monastery on whose foundations the Alte Universität (Old University) stands.

Our contribution

The platform.

As a partner, INOSOFT provides the digital platform. It is based on our Waypoints technology and runs directly in the browser, including on smartphones.

Structure

Two phases.

Phase 1

Collecting and opening up data

In courses, in working groups and through targeted research, data sets are created that are publicly accessible via the Wikimedia platforms.

Phase 2

Bringing it to life

The data is prepared in a multimodal web application: with text, audio and video content in 2D and 360 degrees, as well as interactive games.
