Our work has shifted: It’s becoming less and less about getting a process into a system in the first place—that is, digitizing it—and more and more about deriving reliable insights from existing data. At the same time, low-code has made development faster and more cost-effective. The effort hasn't disappeared; it has simply shifted: What takes time today isn't the lines of code, but the coordination that comes before, during, and after. This episode explores what that means for the expectations placed on developers—and what gets lost in the process.

Many companies have already licensed Microsoft Power Platform—but it takes a while for word to get around about what it can do. In this episode, we discuss how a Power Platform Action Day can change exactly that: an event format that directly engages employees from line-of-business departments, focuses on their real-world challenges, and demonstrates what digital solutions actually mean in their day-to-day work.

What came of it, which moments were surprising, and what makes the format appealing to other companies.

This time, we’re taking a look at a project that’s been running for quite a while—and asking ourselves honestly: What has stood the test of time, and what hasn’t? Twenty-five years ago, we developed a tool for Heidelberger Druckmaschinen that handles the fully automated installation of all components on a PC. The amazing thing is this: Windows XP, the hardware, half the surrounding environment—everything has been replaced over the years, yet this automation system is still running today. In our Summer Special, we’ll explain why it survived everything and what we would do differently if we were to build it today.

Six months ago, we switched to Teams for our phone calls—now we’re taking an honest look back and returning to our own hardware system. In the Summer Special, Christiane, Luise and Ellen describe what went wrong in their day-to-day work, and tech guru Jens explains what really caused the issues. It all comes down to one simple question: When does “the right choice” trump “the newest option”?

In this episode, we discuss why the best changes come from strength, not from crisis: Those who only act when it hurts have the least room to maneuver. We’ll look at a few examples and discuss how the company’s self-image has evolved - moving away from simply “we deliver excellent results” toward “we understand the pharmaceutical world.” It is precisely this domain expertise that is more important than ever.

In this episode, we look at our humanoid avatar Kilian: using its camera, it recognizes objects and text – and afterwards you can talk to it about what there was to see. We'll show this live and then take apart the architecture that makes it possible. It quickly becomes clear that there's no such thing as "the AI" – instead, it's a finely tuned interplay of many components. Just why one small building block is "the AI" and all the rest is IT architecture is what we'll take a closer look at.

If you want to try the humanoid avatar yourself, you can find the showcase at INOSOFT.de/kilian.

The hackers didn’t have to crack a single password—they simply asked Meta’s AI support to change the email addresses associated with other people's Instagram accounts, and the bot did it. Over 20,000 accounts were affected, including the White House's account; there was simply no provision for human intervention. In WeeklyTalk, we use this and other cases to show how the old help desk trick becomes a new vulnerability as soon as an AI is allowed to act independently.

And we ask what this means for critical processes—where everything hinges on one question: Who is actually authorized to make changes?

In this episode, we discuss what happens when data from external partners is imported into pharmaceutical systems via interfaces — and why a technically flawless import process is not necessarily a guarantee of quality. Using real-world case studies, we highlight where data runs into trouble: with units and formats, with silent data loss, and with values that appear plausible but don’t make business sense. The central thesis: when it comes to units and formats, silent data loss, and values that look plausible but don’t make technical sense. The central argument: A system can validate formats, but only someone who understands the subject matter can determine whether a value is actually correct. An episode exploring why strong domain knowledge in data management isn’t just a nice-to-have, but crucial for data integrity.

Every now and then, we notice that companies strictly restrict access to Microsoft Copilot—while at the same time recommending GitLab Duo, with its integrated LLMs, for unrestricted use in code development. This asymmetry raises issues such as confidentiality agreements with providers and the question of who actually controls what information is shared externally. We debunk the myth that “AI learns everything” – and highlight where the risks lie. And: What would a responsible approach to using these tools look like without exposing oneself to legal and regulatory risks?

The focus of this episode: Microsoft’s opening keynote and the presentation “Staying valuable in the AI shift” by MVP Chris O’Brien—two talks that describe the same AI landscape yet approach it from opposite directions. We discuss what was said, how it was said—and, above all, what wasn’t said. In the end, we ask what this means for our work.

At the beginning of May, Microsoft shut down the once innovative Skype video chat. We are taking this as an opportunity to talk about audio and video chats - primarily, of course, about how they are used in the corporate environment.

This is where Skype for Business plays - or rather played - a major role and is increasingly being replaced by Microsoft Teams. We explain how and why using the example of a major migration or changeover that we carried out.

This was already an issue in the 90s under the artificial term Netiquette. This referred to rules of conduct for good, appropriate and respectful communication in the digital world. Are these rules still up to date? That's what this episode is about.

"We bend SharePoint, until the doctor comes" is the somewhat flippant title of today's episode. SharePoint is a very comprehensive toolkit that offers a wide range of options for creating intranet sites, for example, quickly and easily. It becomes more difficult when you want to deviate from the standard in order to implement special requirements. Let's take a closer look at what this means.

This episode is about the INOSOFT Spielwiese. The so-called Spielwiese (english: Playground) is a two-day format that takes place once a year and in which all colleagues have the opportunity to deal with topics that interest them and that they have always wanted to explore - outside and completely independently of the actual project work.

In this episode, we talk about a topic that is not really one of the classic IT areas, but which has preoccupied companies for decades, a topic that some people cannot suppress a yawn at - but which has never been as pressing or overwhelming as it is today: bureaucracy, over-regulation and "bureaucracy reduction".

Everyone is still talking about artificial intelligence and ChatGPT in particular. Specialists are springing up everywhere to explain the benefits, efficiency gains, increased productivity and so on and so forth that can be achieved by using these tools. We want to take a more in-depth approach and explain how so-called large language models work, what tokens and chunks are all about, how you can fill such systems with your own content and what you should always pay attention to.

"I can still understand software development to some extent, but what do you actually do beyond that?" is one of the questions we hear most often. That's why we took a look in our project box and picked out an interesting, classic digitization project - which we'll talk about as an example, explaining what we do, what the task is, and what the end result looks like.

Social commitment means investing money or time in a project that serves a good purpose. We also do this and support various projects throughout the year - usually - with financial donations. Much more interesting in this context, however, are the activities that our colleagues perform, for example, in sports clubs - or in supporting Ukrainian refugees.
